Gun Loss Register
The Gun Loss Register is a new service provided by the Art Loss Register. We work to support the trade and police by providing a centralised international database of stolen guns to increase chances of their recovery, and deter theft.
For over 25 years, the Art Loss Register has recorded more than 5,000 stolen guns, from Purdey’s, Holland & Holland and Westley Richards rifles, to flintlock pistols and 17th century antique firearms.
These registrations have been reported to us by police, insurers, private individuals and the trade.
Art Loss Register
Founded in 1990 with the backing of the art trade and insurance industry, the Art Loss Register holds the largest private database of lost and stolen art, antiques and collectables.
Its range of services include item registration, search and recovery services to collectors, the art trade, insurers and worldwide law enforcement agencies.
Its services are efficiently delivered by employing state of the art technology and specially trained professional art historians.
“As the UK's leading rural insurer, NFU Mutual welcomes the launch of The Gun Loss Register, not least as a deterrent to theft by making sales by the thieves more difficult.”
The Gun Trade Association Ltd
“The GTA strongly endorses The Gun Loss Register. We see it as a vital contribution to the international battle against the trade in stolen guns. It will provide significant deterrence against theft itself and allow the trade and private purchasers to check the Register and buy with confidence."
Holland & Holland Ltd
“We welcomed the assistance of The Gun Loss Register in the recovery of the ‘Royal’ double rifle."
Gavin Gardiner Ltd
“As a leading and respected sporting gun auctioneer, we take due diligence very seriously. In an increasingly international market, it is vital to know that every gun that we sell has been checked against the database of stolen and lost firearms. This protects us and our clients against any come back as well as providing confidence and peace of mind.”
